Have you guys had any problems with IP? If you make a discovery do the schools or person funding it get full credit?

You have to check out your school's policy on this one. Generally school's get the money, you may get the credit (or your PI - just because you ran the test that discovered something cool doesn't mean you can take credit from your PI if they thought it up and made everything possible) but that may be different for your school.
Look up the technology transfer office. That's the term for the department that helps profs make $ off of their inventions, so they'll have what you're looking for.
