I must make this brief, but answer would be very helpful.

1. Normal working hours/ wk.

2. General starting salary.

3. General years of education with internship and residency.

4. Any other information you find useful.

Thanks.

Some spinal surgeons are neurosurgeons and some are orthopedic surgeons. Both specialties are discussed ad nauseum on this forum. Do a search and you'll find your answers.

Normal working hours and salary vary drastically depending on type of practice and location. I'll bet there are some that work 45-50 hours per week while some work 100+ per week. Some make 200k-250k per year while others may be double that.

As far as residency goes, it would require 4 years medical school then one year of internship. Then it depends on the path one takes. Possible options include:

Orthopedic surgery - 4 years
Neurosurgery - 5-6 years

and then a one year spine fellowship on top of those is usually taken but not always necessary.
