Hey, I graduated this year from Jordan, i still have one year as intern here, then I’m interested in going to Australia..

First of all, I read about the residency in Australia and i saw the AMC website and the medical board, but I didn’t really understood the difference between standard, specialist, competent pathways, if someone could explain them in a simple way

And secondly, i know Australia isn’t easy to get into, but i would like to know the most available residencies for IMGs, like internal medicine, surgery, etc.. and I’m really interested in internal medicine, is it available or hard to get? How many years in avg as a GP will i wait to get it.. and what are the best ways to make it shorter waiting time?

Thirdly, will doing elective in my internship year there help me get to Australia ? And how it is done please

Finally, can you tell me the details for these to get there? (Graduate, AMC exams, ielts, visa) and whatever else required

Thanks a lot

if you only have a medical degree, you have to take the AMCs. It's quite simple.
You wouldn't qualify for specialist if you aren't a specialist.

The most 'available residency' is rural medicine or rural GP.
None of the ones you've listed.

Shorter waiting time - do AMC I and II and do rural medicine.

Australia allows electives for students. If you've graduated, there are no electives. You cannot do any 'elective' as an intern in Australia.

You've already listed the details for yourself. AMC exams, IELTs and then find a hospital to take you then apply for a work VISA.

Start with the AMC, if you can't pass that, there's not much point in thinking about the further steps.

Thanks a lot, just a question. Is rural medicine the same as family medicine?

It can be. but it just won't be in any city.
There's also the 10 yr moratorium.
In rough, it limits practicing as a GP if you go to a city by 10 yrs. if you stay rural it's cut down to 5 yrs.

GP training time is 5 yrs generally in Australia. It has it's own entrance exam. You also have to get through hospital rotations. They're not likely to accept you if you've only done internship. You will likely still have to find a hospital to hire you as a general resident rotating in a hospital before you can apply for GP. So, 6+ years if you're willing to wait and that's already the fastest route.

But this is all after you take and pass the AMCs and it doesn't sound like you've started.

Are you beginning to get why it's hard?

I see, i know it’s hard, but even GP is hard?
Well, if i wanna do rural medicine, it will take me 5 years to finish it or to get started?
And, yes I haven’t started studying yet, i wanna know what I’m getting into first, if i accept this challenge, then i will start immediately..

Can you explain to me what is rural medicine all about? What they do? Similar to which speciality?
I know i have to be in rural area

And if you please, can you name some rural areas, just wanna google it and see how it is like

https://www.acrrm.org.au/. Follow the links.
Or refer to this to get an idea - http://www.heti.nsw.gov.au/Global/HETI-Resources/rural/GPPTP/NSW RTP Brochure - Web.pdf.
Try to see if you would even pass AMC first, and if you have the motivation to study for it. If you can't..there's not much point in considering what comes next.

I'm going to stop spoon feeding you at this point, try to do some further research and reading on your own :) As per the links above. Otherwise, I start to wonder exactly how serious you are about this, as I'm taking time out to respond and read things for you that don't apply to me (I.e. AMCs, IMG requisites).

If you're lucky, it'll take you 5 years to finish.
It can in some cases, take a couple of years to start - given challenges with AMCs, finding a hospital to employ you, VISAs, medical registration, and then applying for training etc. etc.
