Read CP's thread first: US doctor moving to Australia.
Many of the answers to your questions can be found there.
Ask CP questions if you're not sure about something.

fyi - I'm only PGY2, so I simply can't answer much of your questions specifically. nor am I an "IMG" to Australia.

What i will say is that cardiothoracic surgery (there is no such thing as "cardiosurgery") is highly competitive. and they will not let you directly transfer from Syria into cardiothoracic registrar training.

Royal college of surgeons website here: RACS | Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. The admission requirement into any surgical college is that you be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

Separate the terms in your mind with regards to Australia. residency is general rotations into either all fields, or all medical specialties or all surgical specialties (very generally speaking - it will depend on which hospital you work for). Registrar training is vocational training that will be down one specific stream.
