Hi everyone;
:(I know this might be boring for you to read this because but I really nee d help and I have no one actually no one to consult with where I live-because of lack of experience...so god bless you if you would help's really appreciate it; let me tell you my story:
I am a 5th yr medical student living in iran.im 23 y o.im really interested in ENT;not only because of its field but also because my father used to be a ENT attending in here-he passed away-so im actually determined:), I don't want to be a resident here because of some social and political uncomfortable circumstances here which is not very appropriate according to my believes although I have a simple way here to be a ent here bc of my dad position that time
My problems:
1- I don't have a visa-the only way I have is the annual us dv-lottery chances! Which is only luck!!!???A life based on luck:mad:-what a shame
Even my own country won't get me a passport until I passed the 2yr military service after my graduation
2-i doesn't know if do study, leave my own country's residency program; study from the beginning of step one which I passed a lot ago and...Finally can I be an ENT resident there?! Make it brief: I somehow NEED MOTIVATION:):)
I used to be a really active student, alwayse with some sort of elevated mood; decided; but now because I don't know anything; I just wander in a depressed mood!
I KNOW only IMPOSSIBLE IS IMPOSSIBLE
I know I can I really decided
But I need help's need to be guided;
Ill do anything -anything in my way if I only know just know where the way is: P
Sometimes I would think I wish a would born in America, but its destiny and faith-and I do believe in it;
Sometimes I think that would be really good if I had only one American student as a friend to talk about all this sometimes...:(

I really appreciate for the ones who put time for me; I know it's boring and dull; I know so many wont care…just for those who care; do know that I will really appreciate any kind of help for the rest of my life and I means it!!! Thanks:):)

without a visa, and also being an IMG, ure chances of getting ENT are extremely slim.

the only thing u can do is to take the USMLE step 1, 2, and 3. get 260+ on all of them. do research with a famous ENT, get a Letter from him/her, and apply. even then ure chances at best are small.

But the good news is that he saved 15% on car insurance with geico.

OK being serious, yes your chances are slim, but nothing is impossible. I believe ENT has the lowest percentage of IMG's, and even that small percent it does have are attendings who have practiced in their countries for years before applying. Having said that, you never know. Crazy things happen.

Amir,

I understand your motivation to leave Iran. ENT however; can be a long shot without visa, even with good board scores. There are plenty of applicants in the states with stellar board scores that do not have the residency issues. This is not to discourage you, but the path will be extremely difficult. Although some IMGs have been able to obtain ENT spots, keep in mind they have had a chance to rotate with programs, and they are either US citizens or have visa otherwise.

If you see your future in Iran, I would recommend completing an ENT residency there. I have worked with quiet a few persian doctors, and there is absolutely no shortcomings in their education and proficiency.

Goodluck!:luck:

hi,first of all,,i should thank u for u for ur replies;of course the true story u mentioned was not quite delightful but actually real,but let me tell youy sth of my own life that ive learnt through these yrs;
- i think impossible is impossible
-our university entrance exam is kindda hard exam that requiers studing about 14 hours a day for about a yr to pass it,that yr our house was under construction and i stayed home,studing and my break times i had some tea with workers,i know its somehow dull to say all of these things but i believe if i want i can
-**** and the most important thing i my life is deciding what to be,not to be what is not decided to be!so i made my decision.i dont want money-if i wanted i had enough,and i will have more here,but what for-but here no one progress bc of qualifications-but bc of relations,or the qualified wont earn equal to their efforts.i wanna be free.
but besides all;i dont regret;i love what i did,and what i am,maybe i hadnt the same facilities as a USA student have,but i believe someone who had everything from the begining wouldnt be pleased by seeing them,but one of the reasons i wanna go there and continue my edu. is the sense of discovery.which i things that would be more interesting to me than to a american,
i have a lot more to say,but i think thats enogh for now.im not that talkative,suppose its kinda self disclosing in order to find some one who still cares about humanity:)

Good morning drARR
I am a french medical student.I would like to be ENT in france but help the iranian people if I can

questions:
I want to know if Iran lack of ENT? is an ENT usefull in Iran?
What kind of ENT pathologies are there frequently in Iran(medical and surgical)?
what does your father think of practicing this specility in Iran
for example do it lake ENT more near Kermanshah
Thank you for your answer.

suggestion.

I think that is easier(but hard too) to become ENT in france.
you have to pass the first medical year:it's a competition(+- 20% are successfull)(I advise you the university of Bobigny(near Paris) where lots of foreigners(and i know 2 iranian there) go there)
then if you obtain the equivalence of 5th medical year. you go in the 6th year for taking the ECN(examen classant national).if you wantto attain a place for ENT. you must be +- 800/6000(if it don't change)

good luck

Here are the cold cruel numbers for you to explore.

http://www.nrmp.org/data/chartingoutcomes2009v3.pdf

Note that last year, there were only 47 non-US Allopathic seniors applying for ENT, and of that group, only 10 matched. That group includes DO's as well as US born foreign students.

fist thanx for ur amazing quotes again esp -lepersaan-flepotomist

you asked me some quesitons about ent in iran
1- nowadays its one of the major especialties in iran bc of luxury and the salaries actually.i can say one of the best five students choose after the residency enterance exam_which is not easy at all_requires at least 1/5 yr of hard studing
2-there are lots of pathologies but the ones which makes this branch very popular is Rhinoplasty-i can say 1 out of each 5 iranian girls do this kindda surgery in major cities which turend into a MODE DU JOUR!:p
3-fortunately my father was one of the well known ent'ist in MASHHAD that after 20 yrs of his death still so many profs in the hospital really do favours to me in all wards.here one of the leading ffactors to be succeed in your specialty is being a attending staff.
4-finally y i don wanna be here besides all these :
A- i wanna smell more freedom caz i think life is short-i wanna decide my way not to be decided by the way which i fell into-political matters here had broken my heart.i don like some traditional aspects of life here.
B- i wanna live in a place that they care about what i did.not like here that they ruined GP's characterestic BC OF Poor managing of them
C-if i stay here i would have money and respect but the way is like this :
1--- 7 yrs -->gp without licence
2--- 2 yrs millitery service-->u can get ur degree
3--- 1 yrs study HARD -->40% u might pass residency
4----if u pass u r still nothing =>just u might have more respect bc of ur degree when you want to choose a girl who to live with:p ridiculous:)) bot still no money
5- oh mon amie...after 10 yrs i would be 30 then --> NEW ENT
6- pass 2 yrs of practice in poor regions with pooor circum.-> i thought if they send me to poor regions in us would be equal to some of our major cities with more facilities:p OF COURSE WITH MORE SALary than here
finalement->ON NE PEUT PAS OBTENIR BIEN-FAIT JUSQUE 40 ans -ET JE DETEST UN VIE COMME CA!
--------
so i decided to choose a hard life with more value and go abroad--i dont care about lots of money that much but i care about freedom and my individual riights
---
by thhe way i really like france
i have B1 Delf french licence
but i have 2 problem-
1- the language: im very fluent in english but im still afraid caz i think a physicion should talk like a native and french is realy hard
2- i heard europen count, are more racist and dont like foreigners at all esp ta give them more ranks,,,
------
SRY I TALKEd A lot...i call it kindda self disclosure---forgive me then and godd bless you all especially the ones who cares about others![:->]

Wow Amir, your story and situation really moved me. As a persian pre med student here in the U.S [I was born in the U.S and am not muslim] I really feel where you are coming from, as you said yourself nothing is impossibe. I have family members that were well respected surgeons in Iran and came here and still retained the same respect in the Surgical field. Now I know ENT and General Surgey are completely different in many ways, including competitiveness, nothing is impossible. You would have to make yourself unique and be at the top of your game to practice ENT in the US as an IMG. Also there are many Iranian Medical Committees here in the U.S which might support your endeavor, most of them are based in California {Tehrangeles if you you know what I mean...]. IAMA.org is one eample of the Iranian American Medical Association. Try and seek their guidance, they are very nice.

Anyways Amir omid varam ke to mitooni be arezooat beresi.

Stay Safe
Peace and All the Best

all these are just suggestions:

for your two problems:
1)French language is a hard language I know but ,if you stay one year in France you can learn very hurry.secondly in the faculty of bobigny a Iranian friend tell me that the teacher take into account you are a foreigner (they recognize by written who is foreigner).

2)the French people is not more racist that other country.above all if you are Persian: the pure Europeans love Persians,and "the musulman community"(that mean originate from Algeria Lebanon Egypt...) love Persians too.
and in the Paris's hospitals there is lots of persan's doctor.
other things into the bigges cities,their is lots of musulmans(sunnites for the majority) so their is no problem if you want to eat hallal meat.

so finely, your only problem is the language after one your in france it wont be a pb anymore.if your speak English very well there is a very well method for leanning french for the eglish or Arabic speaking people. that its site: www.assimil.com

I've seen in my family that one part is in the USA and want have come in france now and I and the part of my family that come in France is very happy to be there and happy to not be in USA.
there is not a critic about USA, but it's a contatation

if you have other question about France and medicine tell me and I can give you my private messenger.

question(still about ent)
I want to know which real ent's pathologies is frequently in iran(rhiniplasty is aesthetic for me not pathology).like for example surdity, ENT cancers or other pathologies that need surgery.specialy the pathologies of the poor people who need to be operated but they can not because there have not money.(I want in fact to know that if I become ENT,will I be usefull for the poor people in Iran.

à plus ****. Si Dieu le veut.

;)Im a 5th yr med student (here 7 yrs).I want to be a specialist in a developed country, best choice is USA then Canada then Australia … my love is ENT
I know French intermediately and English advanced…lespiron said French is not that hard……

Ive heard they don’t give such a thing to foreign graduate...these days that really a matter for me thinking about starting from the beginning of med school if I go to amercia?

Please accept my apologies every one who want to read this part.because im a lil talkative here in order to self-disclose a little and feel free,
You know leperson…im really surprised that I can see some one –especially an European one who cares about a person like me…a third world citizen who is most of the time neglected by the ppl in developed ones…caz no body cares….who cares about humanity these days…every one look at his or her own benefit…
So I wonder .are you originally French?! Any Iranian relatives there? You are asking me about helping poor people in Iran; for the purpose of helping them, while here majority of our best dr care about improving the money they gain…
Some times I feel pity for myself thinking about the situation for a person like me that want to start from the beginning in a new country (EVEN not sure where!!!)but then try to shake again and say : this is the real life, its not all about the money and comfort … bc I can achieve it easily here…but its about adventure…fighting against the absurd aspect of the life…If I were a rich American medical student for example who has no goal and nothing to look for ..What a monotonous life that would be…an objective life…which I don’t like...i like to be subjective...looking for better ;trying and reaching the best…
Once my friend said: you have all ppl here think that is good here a good family; good car; nice house and a funny cute dog why u want to put urself in a way full of trouble and with less respect … I said “when I become 50 or 60 y old here; I don’t want to say I was fell in a way that didn’t choose any subways there…I don’t want to feel absurd. I want to decide! Try to be better…
You know once I had a friend that his father is one of the richest men of the city…when I see the children they don’t look energetic like others. Even when driving the best car they don’t feel interested .when buying something new they don’t feel changed...caz they have everything they want without any try! What a mess! They would lose their motivation…and I think I would be the same if I stay here…that’s one aspect …

I hate politics, I really do. Because it’s mixed up with knowledge...i do nothing with politics but I can easily have a visa only because im Iranian!!!I am a human! I did best all my life-at least try to be good. I helped poor ppl, oh my god I can’t believe that would be really stupid if someone says if some governments of a country are bad all Iranians are bad…!!!Heyyyyy people …where is your justice!?Isnt there any bad people in your country? That means are your country men are bad???Dear American! Especialy im talking to you…L
Sry if I wrote a lot…but that’s the only thing I can do at them moment, a blind letter to people who might concern about one’s sorrows…
-Hope for peace and equal life-
Ill tell you about common ENT pathologies in following msg
