I am Canadian Citizen in US DO Program. Do I need to take USMLE to get J-1 VISA from ECFMG?

I am Canadian Citizen currently enrolled in a US DO Program.

I will need J-1 Sponsorship from ECFMG.

Does ECFMG require a US DO Student who is a Canadian to take the USMLEs in order to sponsor for J-1.

I don't wish to spent time and money on USMLE, if I don't really have to.
