FA says that hypothyroidism increases LDL because of decreased synthesis of LDL receptors. It says later that thyroxine upregulates the production of cholesterol. Thus, hypothyroidism would mean less thyroxine and less production of cholesterol. What's up with that? How do you know which effect predominates?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't something like 90% of your cholesterol reused or coming in from food, so LDL receptors down-regulated would cause a much higher impact since cholesterol is more likely to be found in the blood and cause more problems than the impact of lowered synthesis of cholesterol to offset that effect.
