I read through the HPSP contract but I'm still confused. Assuming a 4 year scholarship, 3 year residency, and 4 year initial ADSO, how many of those years count towards the 20 you need to retire?

What about if you transition to the drilling reserves after the initial ADSO?

Don't you get like 1 good year toward retirement after you add up all the days on ADT?

To not be so quick I actually went and looked up what appear to be the applicable regulations. The easiest one to understand was this: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...ljMJa762mtZQ7TF2Q&sig2=yHHOV1a5q19GKvdq0iB7gw

If anyone has anything else then read that as well. It does appear that it is possible to get retirement credit for HPSP years, but it's a little convoluted and requires that you spend time in the SelRes after completion of your obligation AND be in a critical wartime specialty.

Tl;dr

really?

Highly unlikely for sure. Now, if you hit 20 of active you should be able to get the reserve time from HPSP added to your multiplier. Eligible reserve time is added up and divided by 360 (yes, not 365 probably because it makes the math easier). That is what your multiplier is based on, added to any active duty years you have. HPSP gets, what, 45 days per year, right? (45x3)/360 = 0.5. 2.5% x 0.5 = 1.25%. So a 20 year retirement should get you 51.25% instead of 50%.
