How much Memorization is there in a typical Med school ?

Unfortunately, memorization/rote learning has been and will remain a big part of medical education. Before you can "analyze, reason and problem solve", you need to have a solid foundation of basic biomedical knowledge that enables you to do the above. Without this first hurdle, there's no way you can "analyze, reason and problem solve". This should be fairly obvious....

All medical schools and medical exams such as USMLE have changes major portions of their testing and teaching to PBL.

However, Before you can participate in any PBL you have to know what you are talking about. What I mean by this is the names and interactions of medicines, pathology of disease and physiology/anatomy of disease.

90% of all of that is MEMORY bases. You just have to remember the name of that bone or that drug. It's that simple.

The problem is that there is soooooooo much of it to remember.
