I always think it is interesting to see how different schools approach subjects like anatomy when trying to maximize knowledge retention.
At MSU, we have small animal anatomy for one semester and then large animal anatomy second semester. We only dissect dogs, horses and cattle but get random sections from cats, pigs or sheep.
We also do it in units, starting with the forelimb, then hindlimb, thorax, abdomen and finally the head. During each unit we learn everything all at once- muscles, blood vessels, organs and nerves. This helps me to see how everything fits together rather than learning all the nerves at once, then all blood vessels, etc. etc.
What do you like or not like about how anatomy is taught at your schools? Do you think there is any benefit to doing it a certain way?
