Hello! I recently got accepted into Emory and UCLA for premed and am having trouble deciding between the two. I want to go somewhere with plentiful research opportunities and a supportive environment where I can do well academically.

I made a pros/cons list below.

Emory:

Pros:
  • Smaller School, lower student: teacher ratio, possibly easier academically (?)
  • Much more pre-health advising
  • Emory Healthcare and CDC
  • I'm a conservative from a liberal town, Georgia might be a nice change of pace
Cons:
  • COST // 53k a year (excluding room and board)
  • It's super far from home

UCLA

Pros:
  • Has a top 10 medical school
  • Higher Ranked
  • Much cheaper cost // 13k a year
  • LA is still a nice place to live
Cons:
  • No real premed advising
  • Competitive premed culture (from what I've heard)

Besides the cost, are there any other differentiating reasons for why I would pick Emory or UCLA?

Thank you so much in advance!

I strongly suggest UCLA. $13K vs $53k a year is HUGE difference (if I could make the font bigger, I would). Plus it's closer to your home, has nice weather year round, and is prestigious. The other differences are more minor in comparison IMO.

I don't think Geffin favors their own grads. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a lot of undergrad alums, but it's probably because UCLA has a ton of premeds, especially ones from CA who want to stay in CA. I could be wrong though.

Always the cheaper option unless you don’t feel comfortable there. In this case, UCLA.

ucla hands down imho... price is too much... also competition is present, but a non-factor esp in comparison to other schools like uc berkeley
