Please share with me what the word out there may be regarding the use of a physician recruiter in helping you find your first position after residency or fellowship?

A recruiter can earn a finder's fee that is a much as one-fourth to one-half of your first year salary. Your new employer has to come up with money. Because of this, the starting salary of a job found through a recruiter tends to be lower than if you found the job through more legitimate means.

ntmed... not necessarily true... some recruiters make a fix fee that is independent of your future contract income. In fact, some recruiters can find you jobs where A LOT of money is available - most likely because nobody else wants to work there (location, personalities, bureaucracy, etc...)
