Currently on a rotation with rounding, clinic days, and OR days...
I now realize the terrific pain of having all the things I've disliked during the past 4 years neatly wrapped up in a single experience to do on the daily.
EM, your variety, from emergent to mundane, is beautiful. Your patients, from grateful to belligerent, are elegant. Your sitting stools, always there offering everlasting support, are modern marvels. Graham crackers, turkey sammiches: a perpetual smorgasbord... juice and gatorade, eternally on call, nectar of the gods. Why climb the ladder when life on the ground floor is so good?
This has been a great experience already, first week, for further reinforcing my decision for residency.
I can't wait to get back into the ED next month.
God bless you, EM.
