EASL Young Investigators' Bursaries - Two International Conferences in Hamburg and Budapest

The European Association for the Study of the Liver's aim is to support Young Investigators and help them attend the EASL Monothematic Conference: Immune Mediated Liver Injury, Hamburg, Germany, December 4-6, 2008 and the EASL Monothematic Conference: Portal Hypertension: Advances in Knowledge, Evaluation and Management, Budapest, Hungary, January 22-25, 2009.

In order to achieve the above, EASL offers a bursary to the presenting authors only of the best accepted abstracts who are aged 35 or under and are still in training.
The application is available to anyone fulfilling the above criteria, without geographical restrictions!
FULL BURSARIES

50 bursaries of Euro 750 each will be attributed to the presenting author of the best 50 scored abstracts. This bursary will be handed out by cheque during the EASL Monothematic Conference: Immune Mediated Liver Injury and 50 bursaries will be handed out during the EASL Monothematic Conference: Portal Hypertension: Advances in Knowledge, Evaluation and Management. In addition, the registration fees to the conference will be waived.

The abstract submission deadline for EASL IMLI is two weeks away: September 25, 2008

Central questions that will be addressed during EASL IMLI include:
  • Which are the liver specific lymphocyte responses
  • What are the protective anti-viral immune responses and how do they contribute to liver damage
  • What are the anti-parasitic immune responses and how do they contribute to liver injury
  • How is the innate immune response linked to toxic liver damage
  • How are innate and adaptive immune responses linked to autoimmune liver injury
  • What are the consequences of chronic inflammation in the liver

  • Pathobiology of the Vascular Endothelium and its relevance in Portal Hypertension
  • Mechanisms of hepatic structural changes and its reversibility
  • The hyperkinetic syndrome and its mediators
  • Angiogenesis and Portal Hypertension
  • Diagnostic tests and prognostic models
  • The role of HVPG measurements
  • Advances in therapy

3. 44th Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of the Liver will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark, April 22-26, 2009.

This meeting attracts approximately 7,400 participants from around the world and is a must for all clinicians and scientists involved in the fight against liver disease to meet and exchange ideas about current problems and the latest solutions on the topic.

Regular abstract submission has closed. The submission form will be re-opened between February 23 – March 2, 2009 for LATE-BREAKING ABSTRACTS ONLY.

4. EASL Monothematic Conference on Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis will take place in Oslo, Norway, June 21-23, 2009.

Abstract submission will open shortly and close on April 3, 2009.

EASL will be offering 50 Young Investigator Bursaries (750 Euro plus waived registration to the conference) to the presenting authors only of the best accepted abstracts who are aged 35 or under and are still in training.
