Hey! Is it expected that an extern takes call? How often if yes?
Say you’re going for a week, would you need to take call all the days or a day or two would be seen as appropriate?

it would be worth sacrificing some sleep and take call at least twice during a 5 day externship. Preferably sleep in call room since some resident may never call/text you when something "mundane" walks into ED

2 or 3 times is fine. taking call 5 times is dumb, youll never do it in residency and is too try-hard. residents want a breather from externs and sometimes taking a night of call alone is a break from having someone shadowing you every step you take.
