ERAS: Mention possible desire to specialize?

Just a quick question about the ERAS essay. I am planning on going the IM route, and may want to pursue a fellowship in ID. What's the trend here? Do people mention they have an interest in specializing? Or leave it out? Or does it even matter since four years from now your goals may be 180? Thanks.

It is reasonable to discuss your career goals and plans in your ERAS personal statement. Writing about your interest in ID is not likely to antagonize any members of an IM residency selection committee. After all, ID is a subspecialty of IM. Good luck with the application process.
