Which endoscopic techniques are included in a standard GI fellowship as opposed to an additional Advanced Endoscopic Techniques felloship?

Standard procedures are the EGD (upper endoscopy) and colonoscopy. Advanced fellows do ERCP, EUS, EMR.

You would graduate from any fellowship with competence in performance of EGD and colonoscopy with associated procedures such as biopsy, dilation, etc. RRC and ACGME now require for you to have "exposure" to advanced procedures such as ERCP and EUS and you would most likely be able to participate in those if your institution has the capability. If you are lucky to be in a place without an advanced fellowship, you might come out competent to do advanced procedures out of the general fellowship. A good primer for what is expected to be taught in fellowship is in the multisociety curriculum, which can be downloaded on the AGA website. http://www.gastro.org/2007_Version_Core_Curriculum.pdf
