Hello,
I am a physical therapist and am currently seeing a patient who had a multi-level laminectomy performed due to severe stenosis C3-C7. He had developed progressive weakness of the B UE's, L > R. He continues to exhibit poor mm activation and ROM is significantly limited of the shoulders and elbows. My question is... how long would a physician typically wait to order an EMG after a surgery such as this? There was no initial EMG as they operated very quickly after the MRI. I know they like to wait to see how much nn regeneration will happen but what's the time-frame for an EMG for disability purposes? Thanks

About 2 to 3 months but it wouldn't be necessarily to see improvement from the surgery but to investigate for a persistent or new source of injury including injury from surgery.
