My medical school offers about 30 scholarships every year. There is an application process in January and students can select which scholarships they are applying for. Most of the scholarships are offered by families, alumni etc. so the scholarships aren't actually coming from the school, but from different scholarship funds. The application process is facillitated by the school.

Each one has different requirements like academic excellence, commitment to community service, demonstated interest in surgery, desire to practice in our home state, etc. Students submit essays and letters etc. and the recipients are selected by committees.

I am wondering if other medical schools offer these sorts of scholarship opportunities or if this is a pretty unique thing? I would really appreciate responses about what is being offered at your medicals school.

Thanks!

It's not unique that schools offer scholarship....

So to answer your other question, yes my medical school, DMUCOMS, does offer scholarship with the exact same things are what your medical school offers and then some....

Yup AZCOM does too... in fact the Financial Aid office sends out mass emails to everyone when they hear about a new one... I just found out I won one the other day so I am walking proof the average schmo can get their hands in the honey pot!
