Does the program matter at all when applying for fellowship or jobs?

If youre interested in certain fellowships, doing your residency at a program that emphasizes these things or has the fellowship itself, it can help with training.

Depends, what kind of job? Urban outpatient (where you can do as little as you want) vs rural full spectrum? Ob? Hospitalist?

Matters more for fellowships and if you want to do academic medicine.

Fellowships maybe... as others said, a residency that has the fellowship in house, or a bigger academic program would help.

Jobs..... not at all.

I have worked all over the country and not once was I asked about my residency location. Doesn't really matter in the general scheme.

It depends on your scope of practice as well. If you want to do a broader scope of practice (i.e. certain procedures, inpatient, or OB) I would say it matters a lot.

And I would say you at least want to get into a medium-tier residency with good teaching. Many programs churn out docs that don't end up getting good training.
