Do most schools send decisions by email?

I've been waiting for a decision from SUNY Upstate (the said they'd probably let me know around the 2nd week of November but who knows) and of course have been stressing myself out about it and I got to wondering how schools usually send decisions? Does anyone actually send paper letters? Or notify you via the online portal?

Some schools send decisions only via snail mail. I have no idea whether SUNY Upstate does.
