DO 2022 match thread?

I've been waiting for this. I'm headed to KCU this Fall. I was genuinely blown away by KCU's match last year and even more blown away now. I'm glad I have the opportunity to attend this school.

At the end of the day match falls on the students not the school. I have plenty of students from my fairly new school (second class) that matched some awesome programs, and that's more a reflection of their hard work.

Idk what your personal situation is, like family or spouse with a career in Maine or something, but all else being equal go to PCOM. Honestly even if you had to uproot your family…go to PCOM.

Agree with @DOVinciRobot and @BobbyKoch go to PCOM. UNECOM has a history of kicking people out for failing OMM practicals. Not to mention all of the research and audition opportunities that the 4 MD schools in Philly have to offer.

This 100%. Take a look at Wayne state match list on the MD side. It is an average MD school, but they have some motivated students with amazing matches this year for sure.

I agree 100%. But some schools consistently match well over others. This is a good reflection of the school (and the student, of course).

In addition to what was already mentioned, there was an IR at Medical college of Georgia, several general surgery matches. An official list will come out later. This just what I know of.

KCU and similar older and more established DO schools have clout in the DO GME world, but the sooner you learn that you'll go where you want to go in spite of your school and not because of it, the better you'll be. This seems to be true largely on the sub 50 MD side as well, especially if they don't have home programs for your preferred specialty. I had some rad midwest interview invites (KU, Northwestern, Mayo, Wash U, MCW, Indiana, etc) maybe partly because KCU is known among 1-2 junior faculty, but it was much more individualized as evidenced by the countrywide interview invites I had. So, at the end of the day it is at least 95% up to you (with a healthy dose of luck). MD-heavy specialties at academic centers don't really gaf which DO school you go to since so few are in the USNWR research rankings, if any.

The three areas which DO school does matter is (1) in terms of residents who are recent alumni, which is something you should try to take advantage of early, especially if you want to go for something mid to high competitive. KCU has a decent alumni base for most specialties, but not many are practicing in high powered academic settings outside the midwest, (2) whether your school and rotation sites have productive nearby academic centers, and (3) if there's a proven track record for matching into a particular program/specialty.

Those are some great programs and AFAIK some have never taken a DO. Strong work!

The majority of specialties, with the exception of the ones that have been expanding despite being saturated, are getting more competitive in the sense that more people are vying for the same spots than they were before. Other fields do tend to fluctuate in competitiveness depending on changes in interest, but that is honestly cyclical.

They are remaining less competitive, but I would argue many are more competitive than they've been. Path has been saturated for a bit, so that has certainly affected things.

Absolutely.

In general, apply for the specialty you want and try to make your application as competitive as possible. Its not easy to predict a lot of the fluctuations year-to-year.

Anecdotally, it seems like the rads match rate has been more or less stable over the last couple years. But the quality seems to be pushing down a bit. My prospects last year were not nearly what people told me they would be. And this year people even more competitive than me seemed to end up with more limited options.

I feel that it’s quickly going from “Hope I match a solid university program” to “Am I going to match?!” for the average DO rads applicant.

Still some great matches here and there. But I’m not sure it’s going to be a field of good scores + chill interview= G2G much longer.

Will be interested to see how it goes next year. Will it be even worse than our year and this year? Probably based on #s alone but I think people know that you have to do aways in rads now and can't blow them off like I did lol.

It was a really great match for my kids this year! A bunch of them went into uber-residencies. Lots of glass doors kicked open historic ACGME university hospitals. Alas, I can't name names because I'd out myself immediately.

Number of US IMG matched dropped from 3152 last year to 3099 despite an overall increase in match numbers of USMD, DO, and FMG. This is number matched only, not percent matched. Not a good sign for USIMGs.

Your seeing Carib IMG's getting crunched out... look at mid and low tier IM programs and community IM programs, they are mostly USMD and DO now, while previously they had many more Carib IMG grads, and that's in IM.. arguably the most Carib friendly specialty... it's about to get a whole lot tougher for them...

Touro Harlem and Middletown had a decent match this year throughout the NY and NJ area from what I have seen via social media posts and talking to peers. I have been debating between KCU and Touro Harlem as an entering medical student. Does anyone have any thoughts? Match lists for both were impressive to me.

Just go wherever you want to live. There’s not a lot of opportunities at one private DO school vs another. Matching outside of primary care is largely on you.

honestly CCOM's tuition is enough for me to say no to them LOL and I say this as someone who's lived in Chicago my entire life

Based on an excel spreadsheet I saw on their website, touro CA charges 59K for tuition (not including the other cost of attendance fees) and CCOM charges 76K, as stated on midwestern's website. They're both expensive, yeah, but CCOM is harder to justify despite its best efforts to claim that it is.

Looking at the COA sheets, tuition for CCOM is higher but estimated cost of living is more for Touro CA. CCOM is still a bit more expensive, but the difference isn't as large as it initially appears

I've heard that CCOM is a good school, but for anyone reading this I must warn you that you'll be living in Chicago with a high COL on top of a nearly 80k tuition.

At the end of the day, I think you have to think long and hard about how much debt you're willing to take on and realize that it will only go up as the insane federal student loan interest rates likely will resume soon.

My apologies I don't mean to derail this thread, but congratulations to everyone that matched! A special S/O of those of you from KCU, I geniunely look up to you guys as a second year here.

I recently interviewed at CCOM and it seems like a great program, but the cost is prohibitively expensive :( I wish it was a little more accessible to students like me, who come from a very modest background.

Try to get some scholarships to alleviate the loan burden if that ends up being your only acceptance.
