New general dermatology rotation at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center
Course director: Jashin J. Wu, M.D., Director of Dermatology Research and Associate Residency Program Director
The general dermatology rotation at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center is focused on medical dermatology in an outpatient setting. Common skin conditions seen every week are psoriasis, dermatitis, skin cancers, actinic keratosis, acne, and skin infections from bacteria, viruses, and fungi. For the first week, the student will shadow an attending who is supervising 2-3 dermatology residents. For the last 3 weeks, the student will see patients under residents schedules and then present to the resident and attending.
Students/period: max of one 4th year medical student at a time, no overlap. This elective is not meant for graduates or residents.
Duration: 4 week cycles starting July 8, 2013
Cycles:
1. July 8, 2013 to August 2, 2013
2. August 5, 2013 to August 30, 2013
3. September 2, 2013 to September 27, 2013
4. September 30, 2013 to October 25, 2013
5. October 28, 2013 to November 22, 2013
6. November 25, 2013 to December 20, 2013
7. December 23, 2013 to January 17, 2014
Students should be aware that the selection process is very competitive since this 4 week rotation will serve as an interview, and rotators will be ranked on our NRMP rank list in February of their 4th year. Rotators will not be invited back for a second interview in January.
