I would like to know if the selection commitee would consider a person like me (International dentist)having interest in MPH program. I have 2 yrs of work experience. and GPA of 3.8 .I also had some experience in the community work while I was in my school . I don't want to take GRE, for the fear of math  .I am interested in applying to San Jose state university, Do u guys have any idea about the chances of my acceptance. And can anybody guide me?

Hello,

Are you the same poster as "sgn"?

Your qualifications sound good to pursue an MPH. A GPA of 3.8/4.0 is considered very, very good. As a dentist with work experience, you would likely be considered a strong candidate at SJSU if you can explain clearly what your professional goals are in public health, and how your study will help you achieve your goals.

Almost no one enjoys preparing for nor taking the GRE, but with a little preparation, you can at least become prepared for the types of questions you will be asked. Most US graduate schools do require the GRE (with some exceptions), but with a degree in dentistry equivalent to a US doctoral degree, you may be able to request a waiver of the GRE requirement altogether. The acceptability of this practice and the procedure for doing it vary by school, so you should check with SJSU to see if you may be exempt.

Good luck!

A good number of dentists and dental specialists enroll in MPH programs either concurrently or after dental training. Admissions looks favorably upon graduates of professional schools. You've made it through dental school, don't even sweat the GRE. Only thing you need to look into is your citizenship status and tuition fees.
