Medical D.O./M.P.H. dual degree - will the M.P.H. be useful for surgery?

I was accepted to TouroCA this cycle. I have the option to earn an M.P.H. by starting classes at the end of this month and then taking the rest of the M.P.H. classes next summer.

I do not have to pay anything extra - the only downside that I can see is ~20 hours of lecture a week this summer and next summer, which might mean I'll miss out on other opportunities because I won't have time for them.

I am hoping to match into a surgical specialty. Will an M.P.H. help my chances and/or will it help me become a better surgeon?

Agree with above. Nope. Do MPH if youre interested in policy and public health. It will not help you match into surgery, nor will it make you an objectively better surgeon.

MPH will help you become a public health "expert". If you want to do that, do the program. If not, don't waste your time/energy.
