Never mind.
I just check their web.
Their first matriculation for medical school start Fall 2004.
I guess there are no med students enrolling now then.

There are no US citizens in the medical school. The school is intended for Qatari and Middle Eastern background students who want to practice in that region. The school is not set up for any prep for USMLE boards. The school is part of an education city program. Rotations are done in Qatar, and not in the US.

the web site says they are trying to secure spots for residency in the US for their graduates

There is no residency set up yet, but they are trying to set one up by building a new hospital. That hospital will be in Qatar, but it will take some time to build.

I hope they fail miserably. Now we see what this is really about. A money grab by Cornell. They dont give a damn about Qatari citizens getting medical care.

The med students at Qatar should only practice in Qatar.

The med school in Qatar was set up SPECIFICALLY to produce Qatari doctors.

I don't see how you could call it a 'money grab' without being able to back up that statement with any fact- other than by meaningless cynicism.

Cornell University has been doing a lot in the Middle East as of late:

If you're looking for agreement that there are motives to make money in everything- yeah, you have to make money to keep programs running. And yes, Cornell cares a lot about its research endeavors. But if you seek to overlook countless humanitarian efforts that the institution has made in the past- particularly in the field of agriculture- that is just your own misconceptions and politics talking.

Those spots that they are trying to secure are for Qatari medical grads who are sent (by the Qatari government) to get training in the US. They are expected to return as soon as their training (residency/fellowship) is over. All other Gulf countries have the same arrangement with a lot of insititutions in the UK and US. GW, Harvard, Columbia and UT's are some of them.
