Hey guys. I was just wondering if any attendings or whoever can enlighten me about IR doing cosmetic procuders. Either to supplement income or as a primary source of income. I heard of a radiologist learing some basic stuff like chemical peels and botox injections, but I wonder what is the legitmacy of those trainning orignization are. I heard of also a IR learing to do hair transplant surgery. Are these cosmetic orginzations legit? Does anyone know of any things that are coming up for IR to do in the cosmetic world? Do you know of any IR doing just cosmetic procuders? thank you

Thanks for the reply. I read that article. Other then vien procedures anythingnelsemout there ? How about fillers? Or some of those laser lipo ? Is the cosmetics limited only to viens?

Everybody and their mother is doing Botox and chemical peels these days. From family doctor to cardiothoracic surgeon. Sooner or later, it will be done by NPs and PAs in beauty salons.

Varicose veins is also very lucrative, but there are also a lot of people doing it. I have seen internists, Derms, IR, Surgeons, ... doing it. It can be a good supplement to your income if you like those stuff.

If you are licensed to practice medicine, you can do many of cosmetic procedures.

The busiest cosmetic practice in our area belongs to a family doctor who is doing laser, chemical peels, Botox, collagen, .... and she easily beats any Derm and plastics here. Cosmetic medicine needs a super nice office in a rich neighborhood and a charming personality rather than a high skill.

Good luck.

There are a lot of opportunities to pursue this. Like everything in IR, you have to practice build and take care of your patients meaning your work week won't be 8-3, 4 days a week. But if you put in the work, no doubt you can build a robust cosmetic practice.

There are unofficial courses for them. Also many learn it by shadowing another person. In fact, this was how first group of IR people or vascular surgoens learned endovascular procedures. The same for old radiologists reading MR.
As I said before, laser or botox injections are not high level skills. Many family doctors are doing them. You need to be able to draw patients to your office, which needs skills other than medical or technical ones.
