Any experiences providing medical care in a corrections facility? I wasn't really thinking about this kind of a gig but got a flyer in the mail so just wondering. If the pay and location are acceptable then I would consider it. Thanks.

Yes, it can be fun, but don't read the psych notes. You won't want to care for 90% of the people anymore.
Prisoners need care too. Some are there for a month, some are there for life. I always try to give them as close to possible standard of care (which isn't always truly possible at some state facilities sadly), and most of them appreciate it a lot and express it to you. Hopefully the pay isn't too terrible, this sounds like a moonlighting gig.

You’d probably have as much luck with medication compliance and lifestyle modifications as you would with a lot of other patients in the community

Better actually. I’m a prison RN and if there is poor clinical outcomes or other suspicion that an inmate isn’t taking his KOP (keep on person) meds they turn into DOT meds. All controlled substances, antibiotics, antivirals, psych meds, and others are always DOT. And if someone doesn’t show up for their appointment? You get them escorted to Medical in minutes. There is more direct communication between consults and the PCP. Honestly it’s a pretty good model of health care delivery.
