Does anyone have answers to the following questions concerning continuing education while serving in the armed forces after dental school (specifically the Air Force)?

  • Does the military pay for your courses?
  • Do they let you attend any and all dental education courses you would like to?
  • Does time off required for courses come out of your 30 days, or do they give you extra time off for CE?
Thanks for any help!

in my experiences (may vary between services and commands):

unless you are in a residency, the military most likely will not pay for CE.

depending on what is going on, you can usually take the time to go to CE, but i wouldn't say, "any and all." the further out you request it, the better.

you can usually go to a course on PTDY (permissive temporary duty). you aren't charged leave, but you have to pay expenses yourself. there is usually a limit as to how much of this you would be allowed to take (just depends on your command), before you would have to start taking leave for courses.
