Hi everyone,

I just visited Columbia for an MPH. A student mentioned that most of his class was planning on going to medical school. Does anyone know if this is really the case? Furthermore, do you guys think it could be a problem for those of us NOT desiring the MD path?

just wondering,

Hi,

That comment sounds very generalized and overrated. I think in many cases admissions would be able to recognize if someone was interested in an MPH solely as a stepping stone to medschool. And if someone is actually doing this, they're better of going to a cheaper instate school since Columbia has an EXPENSIVE pricetag  .

Also, I think it's ok if people are premed since an MD can be a great compliment to an MPH. I'm premed but solely for this reason-- I think an MD will compliment my public health career aspirations in maternal and child health more than a PhD.
