I find both of these concepts confusing, so can someone just tell me the big picture of these concepts? like what do you need and what is the goal of each technique?

coffee cup is open top, constant pressure, which at sea level would be 1 atm, cannot contain gases; used for heats of reaction (think coffee cup :) )

Bomb calorimeter is enclosed; constant volume, rigid outside, measure internal energy change; reaction transfers heat to surrounding liquid; no work done because there is no change to volume therefore, there is no change in energy
