Adding another date for Seattle Children's -- watch out for that weirdly middle of the night email (no matter what part of the country you're in)!

Hey all, if anyone has a CHOC interview 12/14-12/15 that they would be willing to switch for 12/20-12/21, please let me know! I would also be able to manage with just switching out the child neuro days (your 12/15 for my 12/20) -- would be eternally grateful!

I know this is a bit of a stretch, but if anyone has a Cleveland Clinic interview on 11/8-9 and would be willing to change it to 12/6-7 I would be very grateful. Please send me a message if you think you might be able to make this work :). Also keep kicking butt everyone!

Gentlemen, your input please. What are you wearing to the night before functions with residents? Some places look like bars and I'm trying to judge the fine line between being overdressed and underdressed. Any input?

Does anyone know what month(s) the majority of interviews go out for child neuro? Can we expect more in the coming months (Nov, Dec)? Just trying to get an idea of if/when I should be worried. I submitted a little late (9/25) but I'm not sure how much impact this may have had; trying to figure out if its too early to reach out to PDs. Any input appreciated thanks!

From what I've heard from my male friends applying to different specialties, they went with a button-down shirt/khakis for all of the night-before functions. Especially if the events are at bars/casual places or a resident's house, I'm definitely leaning on the side of being more comfortable and not being overdressed. I have my first dinner next Tuesday, so I guess we'll find out!

To be perfectly honest if you applied to every program and have not heard anything thus far then I do believe it is time to worry. Wishing you the very best though!

To be perfectly honest if you applied to every program and have not heard anything thus far then I do believe it is time to worry. Wishing you the very best though!
Well I've been given 2 so far but I did apply to almost every program :/ Thanks for your reply

I would reach out to the PDs. This never hurts. Show your interest and enthusiasm. I am sure you will get a few more. Don't give up hope. You only need one program.

I read on some sites that the smaller programs are receptive to the "interest" emails! I know we still haven't heard back from some smaller programs, but even the programs that people have heard from, if you know it's a small program or from a small area definitely shoot them an email this week!

A program director told me it's never too early to send out interest emails if you have schools that you are interested in or haven't heard from.

I agree with everything that everyone else has said! Also, I'm sure there are a bunch of people having to cancel interviews due to scheduling conflicts, so that should effectively open up more spots in the near future. I know that I've canceled a handful in the last few days, so hopefully things start to trickle in for you! Definitely reach out, though. Good luck!

I know this is also a long shot, but would anyone be willing and able to change their Stanford interview to Nov 28th? Personal message me -- most of the other dates would work :)

Anyone interviewing at Columbia who wants to switch 11/30 for 11/16? I would really like the 11/30 date if possible.

MGH interviewees! Anyone interviewing on Jan 17/18 who would swap for Dec 13/14?? Would be much appreciated!

UCI/CHOC; I have a 12/14 date for the Gen Peds Interview, anyone interested in swapping for any of the dates between 12/1 - 12/7 or 12/19, 12/21, or 1/4?

Thankful for all of the awesome people I’ve met along the interview trail! Looking forward to seeing where we all end up :).

Hi everyone, some of us thought to make a facebook group to stay in touch with each other throughout the interview process and so that we can see where everyone matches to in March! As it's quite a small community, most people are actually really nice, and we'll be crossing paths throughout the future, I thought this might be a great way to stay in touch!

The group is searchable and called "Child Neurology 2018 Residency Application" and is a public group, so you should be able to join.

What were the earliest and latest days that yall had interviews? currently scheduling 4th year courses and trying to plan when I should schedule my "easier" ones

Hey, my name is Saam, an 8th grader who's looking forward to a successful carrier as a neurosurgeon. Unfortunately, from what I've heard, it takes a minimum of 18 years to become a neurosurgeon. Is it possible for me to 'side-study' neurological surgery during high school? And if so, what do study? Is there a certain book that I could read/study? Or an online course that I could take?

If you want to become a neurosurgeon, the best thing to do right now is focus on doing really well in high school so that you can get into a good college. Take advanced science and math courses, and participate in extra curricular activities. They form the foundation for your future education. It takes at least 4 years of college plus 4 years of medical school to even begin neurosurgery training. It's honestly futile to spend any time now attempting to "side study" neurosurgery. Do well in high school --> do well in college --> get into a good medical school with research opportunities --> get into a neurosurgery residency.

Earliest interview dates I was offered were definitely around the 3rd week of October, although a good number of schools didn't offer anything until November. Mid-November to December was definitely my busiest period, but I know a ton of people who had a busy January as well.

Input! I will be applying to Child Neuro this season but have absolutely no interest in general pediatrics (other than the fact that I need to survive it for 1-2 years prior to child neuro). Have any applicants been in a position where neurology was their main area of interest and pediatrics as a subspecialty or is everyone quite pediatrics heavy?

I was definitely much more neuro focused during the interview season last year, but I have really appreciated my time in gen peds so far. So many of our issues are multi system, and the two years help you build up a rapport with other services in such a way that the neurology fellow becomes a kind of social nidus within our hospital.

It especially helps to understand what it's like to be an intern or a resident before becoming a fellow. I think this is why it's traditionally pleasant for our residents to interact with the neuro fellows. Many programs also offer some increased exposure to neurology for us peds Neuro residents; mine for example frequently schedules me on teams that handle many neurological issues and we get plenty of time with the fellows and attendings.

Feel free to message me if you have any questions btw
