Depends on what you're looking for and what kind of medical record system you have at your hospital. If you're looking for demographics and a few laboratory results (e.g., blood gases, or cultures) then it may be pretty quick. However if you're diving deeper and need to read patient progress notes, and they are ICU patients, then it may take a whole. Some of these patients many have volumes upon volumes of chart. Therefore could take days if not weeks assuming you get ALL the charts you need.

That leads into the next problem of chart review. If it is a current patient or recent patient, then the chart may be requested by the treating physician, and therefore you may have to wait until the doc is done with it.

Lastly, if your hospital has a well-established electronic medical record system then life may be a tad easier. However if its newly implemented, then there may be a lot of jumping around between paper-based and electronic-based patient charts. From my experience, 1 patient can take a full days work if you are also jotting down notes onto paper or computer for research. However when you take into account delays on getting the right patient chart volume, it could take several days!
