Do you guys regularly have chaperone while examining your female patients if they need back exposure? or do you get chaperone only when examining young female patients? How to protect ourselves from accusations? Sometimes i dont get a chaperone or nurse during busy clinic hours. Do you document in patient notes about presence of chaperone during your examination?. Is there any guidelines? Thanks!

According to Polatin et al, Spine 1993? as high as 80% of chronic pain patients have some kind of psychiatric problems, pre- or post-morbid. You never know which one of the ladies had previous sexual-assault, etc..... According to an attending who does a lot of legal work, why risk it. I think it may be okay if clothings are on, but definitely not when exposed, even just the low back. Sorry guys.
