Hey everyone,

I am trying to gauge where I should apply and what my chances are of acceptance. So far I have 37 schools (this needs to be cut down to ~15-20 preferably)

State: South Carolina
Major: Public Health, B.S. (expecting to graduate in December 2017)
MCAT 506 (126/124/129/127)
cGPA: 3.887
sGPA: 3.753
LizzyM score: 67.60

Research:
  • 1 semester in an Organic Chem Lab
  • 2 Years of independent research in Public Health (awarded $3000 grant 1 year into research)
  • 1 publication in undergrad research journal (peer reviewed)
  • 1 publication submitted for review (first author on both papers)
  • 1 conference oral presentation
Shadowing:
  • 60 hours shadowing in cardiology, surgery, anesthesiology, and radiology
  • Day in the Life of a Medical School Student at my top choice of schools (this is not physician shadowing, but I've heard they give brownie points when they review my app)
Volunteer (Non-clinical):
  • ~100 hours with church - over 4 years
Volunteer (clinical)
  • ~350 hours (and growing) at local hospital - over 2 years
  • started by helping out in Admitting and currently work as an Ambassador for the program mentioned below.
Leadership/Work:
  • 15 hours a week tutoring multiple subjects (specifically Gen Chem 1 & 2, Biology 1 & 2, and Organ Chem 1 & 2) - have been employed here for 2 years
  • Program Coordinator Intern at my hospital - helped a physician and my volunteer director start a program that aims to recognize the uniqueness of each patient. We interview the patients to find out their life story, write up a narrative on them, and present it to both the patient and the clinical staff (I love this program, and could talk about its impact all day!). Since the founding of the program, I have assisted in managing the program, recruiting for the program, and training new volunteers/ambassadors.
Letters of Rec:
  • 2 from science professors (Gen Chem and Organic Chem 1) - I worked in my Gen Chem professor's lab
  • 1 from research mentor who I also had a class with
  • 1 from volunteering director who helped to develop program mentioned above
  • 1 from physician mentor who also helped to develop program mentioned above

Curious why your school list is alphabetical

I personally recommend deleting:
  1. Central Michigan University College of Medicine
  2. Rowan Medical School
  3. Geisel School of Medicine
  4. Hofstra (based on new MSAR median MCAT)
  5. Marshall
  6. Medical College of Georgia
  7. Medical College of Wisconsin
  8. Tufts University
  9. University of Alabama
  10. University of Louisville
  11. Wayne State University
  12. West Virginia University

Here is a more realistic list:
ALL SC schools

Rosy Franklin
Loyola
WVU
MCW
SLU
Creighton
Loma Linda (but read their list of don'ts)
Albany
NYMC
VCU
Tulane
U VM
Oakland-B
Uniformed Services University/Hebert (just be aware of the military service commitment)
Netter
Any DO school. I can't recommend Touro-NY, or LUCOM, for different reasons

EDIT: All we can advise on is chances of getting interviews. Accepts are 100% on you.
