My school technically has a chair of neurology, but do I get a letter from him even if I don’t do a rotation with him?

I had a letter from the IM chair at my school who is also a Neurologist last year, and it was fine eventhough I never rotated with him. I had a good relationship with him prior to clinical years, so it ended up being a strong letter.

Lots of specialties get chair letters without ever having worked with them. Most of the surgical candidates at my school have never actually worked with our chair but are getting chair letters.
