Can you find Jordanians here?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hello Sara, How are you doing?
Oh you still have one year to go! Well, I admit it, every med student wait anxiously to start their clinical rotations...Yeah, it's quite more fun. However, you need to do ALOT of reading in order ctach up and understad what is going on when you see patients, otherwise you'd be wasting time in hospital. So, you never get rid of books, lectures, notes..etc.

Anyway, Wish you luck and keep visiting this thread, lotsa conventions in next november.

I think these are, ok, were the most and the last days on which we can sleep!

Only 4 months from hospital, hope we don't fall down from the bridge.:p (At least You know which bridge)

How were your exam results? Mine where somewhat ok, I mean I hoped they had been better but it's OK.

Hello, I hope UCLA will accept me but they have not responded yet. I have been accepted to Loyola, University of Toledo and Univerisity of Kentucky. How is medical education in Jordan? Do many people leave to get training in the US?

Hey Sara,

Wish you luck with your 2nd semester. I'm doing fine. Internal medicine was pretty cool, surgery though is not digestable, at least to me! I still have 5 weeks to finish surgery.

doctor015: yeah, many jordanian med grads hit the road to the states, most of them land on spots of IM, Ped, Pathology, or Family medicine. Good luck :)

Oh, more than you might expect!

Hey Rox, I'm fine especially seeing this holiday tearing its last page.:p

How are you? It seems you find clinical practice so fun, don't you?
By the way we take behavioural science (may be the same as psychiatry) in 2nd semester this year. Ok, in Summer we have sth called introduction to clinical medicine, and medical ethics and history taking and sign and symptoms, sth like that, in 4 weks, then we start oncology and hematology. and all of that are included in one course called "medicine and surgery-1", 9 credit hours, 8 weeks (ok not that sure but sth very close to this description).

I'm still in the holiday mood.. i don't think i'm ready to start studying yet :(

"Holiday mood"? ok, you're right this is the last day with no studying. But do you know? University time has some fun though. (ok not "some", "a little" fun:D ).

Hey IgR,

by the end of the day, you'll learn the same things we learn, so it's just a matter of policy. Regarding the rotation thing, sometimes it's fun, sometimes it's pain!

What a disastrous Environmental exam!  :scared:

Congrats to me:p, I finally finished the basic years.

How did you do? Hope well.

I'll stay around.

Oh you're already done! Well, Congrats! Make sure you have alot of fun in your holidays! :D

Oh my god! What a load!

Clinical! They tell you what to wear, how to wear what to eat, when to sleep, actually they tell you how to kill yourself!:(

Is it just the introductory course, or the whole coming 3 years is so heavy?:(

Anyway, still is there some fun...:D

How was your previous year rox?:)

Oh, welcome to the real life, dude! The past year was bad in all terms. You feel tired and sleepy all the time..but you get to learn how to live with minimal circulation in your legs(thx to collaterals) during the rounds.

How are you suppoused to deal with the physicians to be in the safe side? Load up your dictionary with the following words: Yes, True, I don't know. Never use: Why, Not true, Show me, How, anything starts with "I" like I did, I asked, I wanted, I know, I READ...etc.

Debate, discussion, negotiation..all are words of the past.

You'll hear about every damn syndrome in medicne, even the rarest, but you'll barely see the everyday-cases.

Hmm...your scores..they go way down.

Otherwise, you'll be doing good dude. Best wishes.

hey am new here .. does ne1 check this forum at all?

Hey everyone-I just 'accidently' stumbled on this forum and thought I should holler. I'm also Jordanian! I'm not an MD like most of you here, I just finished my masters and I be attending optometry school in the fall of '08 inshallah, any other optometrists here?

Hello lnx and asmak19, nice to meet you guys.

Best wishes with your Optometry school asmak19.

I was just browsing and I found myself here :)
so it is worth to mention that i graduated from the university of jordan a year ago, and those were really nice years to remember.

Hello abood, nice to meet you..So, what do you actually do now?

Well.. I've just finished emtyaz.. Trying to get a residency position in saudi arabia (where I live).. they're not allowing forigners to work here unless they have 2 years of work experience (so I should spend 2 more years of my life working an UNpaid job).. However, I passed the canadian MCCEE licensing examination, and was hit by a new obstacle which is (an applicant must be either canadian citizen or having canadian perminant residency to work there).. :)

So as for me, these 2 doors are closed... I'm searching for vitamin W :>

Well, wish you better luck with other doors.

I am surprised how you didn't know the requirements before taking the canadian exam. What about USA, have you ever given it a thought?

"Otherwise", there's nothing otherwise.

Which is better at first? medicine or surgery? and WHY?

How are you with the fifth year?:)

I dunno, for me med>surgery>ped worked nicely..

Mashallah. You all have come a long way :) Congrats y'all. :)

Hey Samer,

Nice to meet you. Best wishes with your future plans :)

Hey Samer,

Nice to meet you. Best wishes with your future plans :)

ahlan Rox ....
thank you...
actually, i know a couple of jordanian guys that graduated JUST dental school 2000 and they will be starting this program here in colorado next year ( international dentist program) . both r from somewhere around irbid...
its a bit different for the dental.you need to graduate from an american school first to be able to apply for the licensing boards! ...and pay around 180-200K during that!

regards

Hello Samer...yeah it's quite difficult when it comes to dentistry...Please, keep us updated about how it works out for you :)

BTW, I was wondering....what kind of MD/PhD programs are you running after?

BTW, I was wondering....what kind of MD/PhD programs are you running after?

it might sound crazy but i applied to many programs all around the us.....
i had to go to undergraduate school during the weekends to get the basic science requirements during my dental education years!
in the us , there r many combination programs MD/PhD/MBA/MPH....etc....
i was planning to do general dentistry part time and continue with more school...
u see, in dentistry, once u r done with getting ur DDS u can do any specialty procedure as long as u adhere to the same standards of care as to that of a dental specialist.....it would be just way too boring to just do a specialty.....you can ratehr do as much continuing education classes as u want since dentistry is procedural-based ....unlike medicine.....
and maybe iam just being a bit crazy! but i just need to do more than just a DDS!

Oh i see, it seems such a long way...but motivation is really what it's all about...and you seem to have it :) good luck anyways :)

Hi Rox... How Are You... Long time no posting, Huh?

I assume you're in your final year...and from the number of your posts, it seems you stayed connected with the forum...

How is your studying? What are your plans for future? Have you taken USMLEs?
Please tell me all about what I have missed...:D

I'm now in 5th year.. and still don't know what to do in the next few years...why? because I'm now not sure about anything and very confused...:(

Please I need urgent help.. you seem quite expert in these "things"...
Would you help me?
At first I wanna put a starting point to what I need to know.. which countries are still offering residency programs for Jordanians in particular... and what are the specialties available if you know? :)

Hello IgR, yeah..it's been a long time..so how you been?

I can only provide you with information about USA as I am not familiar with the situation in other countries. People also go to Australia, Germany, Austria, Norway...each country has it's own story. UK, however, is almost not accepting students from our region anymore.

Yeah, I'm now 6th year, took step 1 early this year.

Let me know if you need further help.
