I just want to confirm if my reasoning is correct.
So the reason why flames produce a certain color when an ionic solution is sprayed into the flame is because the excited electrons in the flame fall to a certain energy level to fill a specific unoccupied orbital of the cation in solution, and this certain amount of energy lost gives off a certain wavelength producing a characteristic color.
Is this right?
