If anyone can explain this question to me I would appreciate it.

Q:The addition of pottasium iodide as a nutritional supplement to common table salt would most directly affect the function of which of these glands?
A:thyroid.
Does it have to do with the fact that it secretes calcitonin?

The thyroid gland produces three types of thyroid hormones: T3(triiodothyronine), T4(Thyroxine), and calcitonin. Since both T3 and T4 have iodide in its structure, we need iodide in our diet so that our body can produce those particular metabolic hormones.

Not enough iodide--> Not enough tyroid hormones-->
hypothyroidism-->goiter

Hope that helped =)

Thanx a lot
Im taking DAT on Mon. hopefully this will help!

Nope. Iodine is taken up by the thyroid gland and converted into thyrogloulin which is storred in the colloids within the thyriod gland. Then when needed it is broken down into T3 and T4 (the actice hormones of the thyroid).
