Just wanted to get this information out there:

1. The Society for Interventional Radiology (SIR) has worked very hard to provide medical students with a FREE membership! All you have to do is fill out this information: http://www.tfaforms.com/284632. It is a great way to learn more about IR and demonstrate an interest in the field.

2. After joining the SIR, you can sign up to receive information from SIR's Medical Student Council (MSC) here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1dQIqUPea4hXwidR3rA60uD-77fl7I0KmsgdiVTbQbM8/viewform. The MSC publishes a quarterly newsletter specifically for medical students. They also organize regional conferences and webinars where you can talk with leaders in the field. Finally, they provide travel scholarships to the annual meeting!

3. For those of you who really want to explore your interest in IR, consider joining the MSC. An application is attached. You'll get to work with medical students from across the country on different projects for SIR. If you have any questions, or want more details before you apply, please feel free to contact me. I'm happy to talk about my experience on the MSC.

I would also strongly encourage medical students to pursue these opportunities. Being involved on a national level within your specialty is an excellent decision for any specialty. For IR, however, it is even more crucial given the close-knit nature of SIR. Everyone knows each other, and starting to network early will only benefit your residency and fellowship search in the future. Many mentorships have arisen from interactions at our national meeting.
