Reminds me of "Better" by Atul Gawande when he talked about the physician who participated in overseeing the lethal injections, and was ostracized by the community and his peers.

The "hippocratic oath" isn't an oath at all, it's a ceremonial bromide that doctors mumble to get their licenses and has no morally binding power.

Honestly, I would rather someone trained to ensure suffering is minimized participate rather than leave it to less trained people who might **** it up. No one should be forced to participate though.
