Applying for Jobs

When is the ideal time to seek out general cardiology jobs? Assuming no visa issues or anything else, when do people usually start to explore then when do they look more seriously?
Is it better to use ACC/NEJM etc to find jobs or should you reach out to desired places via email?

I'm currently finishing up second year and recently sent off a bunch of CVs, starting to hear back from some employers/recruiters. I actually know of other second year fellows who already signed on to offers
