I have a bio degree at the moment. I am interested in healthcare informatics and would like to know more about the field however it seems pretty hard to get more information since it is so broad. Plus shadowing seems really difficult too. I am thinking about getting a masters of healthcare informatics, but I don't know if it will be a useless degree since it seems to be more about experience. Could you describe a day in your life? what would you recommend to break in the field? Also salary wise I would like a career type salary so what can I expect?

My short stent as a consultant was just critiquing the electronic medial record and comparing it's flow to other platforms.

You are very right though. Its a very broad field. Some areas would require programing skills, others would require network and server management experience. Nursing informatics is the subset i worked with. It seemed like a day in the life was mostly meetings, pipeline timing and management, trouble shooting, and auditing. I do not know general HI salaries. For nursing informatics specialists with masters i've seen numbers anywhere from 50k-120k.
