I’m a first year GI fellow, recently started weekday home call. I have a lot of anxiety about the pager going off and needing to go in for urgent endoscopies, obviously this is part of the job but it’s preventing me from sleeping well. Any advice from those who have been doing this for years on how to take your mind off it/relax? Thanks in advance!

the saying is "if you have any doubts, go in". invest in a good laptop and make sure to setup home access for all EMR stuff. it used to give me nightmares expecting pager beep but i have moved on. as a first year, its better to be cautious about overnight consults and low threshold to drive in to see patient even if no scope is expected

That’s normal. If you’re going to stay up and worry, go see the patient. Very few patients need late night scopes. You’ll get the hang of it
