Hello everyone! I recently got accepted into optometry school and I will be an OOS student. I've never really lived far away from home so moving will be particularly challenging (1000+ miles away). I probably will not be bringing much with me other than electronics, clothes, and other necessities. How soon should I be looking for a place to live? When should I actually move? I've tried looking online for answers, but there are very few resources I could find. Any general advice and/or moving experiences would be greatly appreciated!

The one nice thing coming from the pandemic is that it's easier to rent an apartment from a distance.
Virtual walk-throughs to see the place & lighter requirements for signing up.

1. Talk to current 1st/2nd years about where to look.
2. Talk to your entering class if you want a roommate (most will have a FB group).
3. Take out a credit card in your name if you haven't already. May need a credit report history for some of the better places.
4. When? A week or less before first class will be fine. Guessing anytime after Aug 1 if that's when your lease starts will be OK.
