How is malpractice insurance handled as an AA/CRNA? Are they covered under rider by the hospital they work for or are they responsible to carry their own?

Do they often carry their own coverage in addition to the employment providers coverage (assuming an employer covers them at all)?

What is the average cost of malpractice/professional liability insurance for an AA? (say for the basic required limits)

Thank you.

If you're working as a W-2 employee for a hospital or group, malpractice insurance is almost always included in the benefit package. Although some may carry their own personal coverage, most probably don't - personally, I don't know anyone that does.

If you're working as a 1099 contractor on a part-time basis, it MAY be included or may not. If you are strictly locum tenens or an independent practitioner, you would need to carry your own. It's not outrageously expensive.

If AAs wanted to work 1099, what would their malpractice premiums be approximately?
