Orthopaedic Surgery Research Fellowship (minimum 1 year)

July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023

The Musculoskeletal Education and Research Center (MERC), a division of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Carilion Clinic and Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, is seeking a highly motivated MD, DO or PhD for a 1-year clinical research fellowship. Highly motivated medical students who have completed their first 2 years of medical school, with research experience, looking to bolster their Orthopaedic Surgery residency application will also be considered.

The Fellow would work within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery under the direction of Drs Jonathan Carmouche, MD (Spine, Professor, Vice Chair-Research), Peter Apel, MD, PhD (Hand and Upper Extremity, Peds, Associate Professor, Co-Director MERC) and John Tuttle, MD (Sports Medicine, Assistant Professor, Co-Director MERC). Our team includes clinical research coordinators, research assistants and administrative support.

This is a structured educational experience with emphasis on academic productivity and skill development. The Research fellow would have access and exposure to our entire 45+ Orthopaedic surgery faculty and all Orthopaedic Surgery conferences.

The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine is situated in Roanoke, VA nestled in the blue ridge mountains and offers outstanding outdoor activities and vibrant culture.
