Yeah, I have my first one this Monday. What sort of questions should we expect? I know it will be a loooong day already.

Standard questions, will be similar to residency interview I would say, maybe focusing more on research interests since H/O is highly academic !

Good luck!! I matched to a PHO fellowship last year... can't wait to start!

In general, it's a lot more intense than residency interviews - will be you and maybe 1-3 other people interviewing the same day. You'll move around to between 6-12 individual faculty, and interview with them, and probably have lunch (and an 'unofficial' interview) with the current fellows. On the other hand, the tone is a lot different - the faculty and you are interested in the same thing, so it's really easy to engage with them! I had some really great conversations on my interview trail.

Questions to expect - the standard stuff. I didn't get any crazy questions at all. Remember - you're being interviewed by faculty, not by a trained interviewer - it's pretty basic stuff. Ways to impress - have a good answer to 'why heme onc?' 'why here?' 'what areas of research are you interested in?'

If you have solid answers to those 3, you'll be good.

Another idea that I used - read up on the current editions of peds blood and cancer, etc, other heme onc journals. See if you can insert references to these articles... and even better if you can discuss them! Shows an interest in the current literature.

Good luck! And have fun! This is an exciting process!

Texas Children's vs MD Anderson?

Was wondering if anybody had thoughts on these two programs? Looking at programs in the Houston area.

Has anyone interviewed at Northwestern ? Do they provide free accommodation ?

Good luck ... I hear Peds HemOnc job prospects are pretty bleak.

Trying to revive this thread. How's interview going ? I have completed mine except one. ROL is now open.

Done! Ended up going to 7...ready to find out. The longer we wait, the more I second guess everything about my list.

Congrats to all for completing the interviews ! I went to 10, going to rank 5 programs only.

Less than 3 weeks until match- don't forget to certify those lists everyone!! I'm so nervous :nailbiting::nailbiting:

Thoughts on children national?
Columbia?
University Chicago?
Chop?

Can't decide on list

Only interviewed at Children's national,it's a very busy clinical program for a medium-small program. Research is not so strong but there is possibility to do research at NCI.

If I were you : CHOP > Children's National > Columbia > U. of Chicago

How many programs is the average applicant applying to these days? I'm gearing up for the next cycle and trying to figure that out. So many programs!

It depends on your credentials. Having at least 6-8 programs on your ROL will improve your chances of matching somewhere. I would say 10-15 programs are sufficient.

Good luck with Match day TOMORROW !!!

What is the current job market like for peds heme oncology?

Sent from my SM-G920V using SDN mobile

It can either be tough or open depending on your sub-subspecialty, desired city, and desired size of program, as well as academic vs clinical focus.

To all who have matched into pediatric hemonc this year, for july 2017, have you guys signed the contract yet? Any idea when they usually do it?

What is the typical time period for interviews? Trying to plan the second half of my schedule for this year...

Interviews are usually December to April (most of them start after the holidays in January)

When does the nrmp site open for registration for this year? Their "application calendar" starts in February which I know is wrong.

Also, are there still cover sheets for letter writers, med school deans letter, other random paperwork? Sorry for all the questions but I haven't been able to get too much info from my home institution.

I've heard the application is moving to third year like everything else. Not sure if it's happening next year or 2 years from now though..
