The Cardiac Imaging fellowship program at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN has one position available for the 2013 academic year.

The Cardiac Imaging fellowship program is intended for radiology trainees who want to pursue either a private practice career that incorporates cardiac imaging or an academic career in cardiac radiology, especially cardiac CT and/or cardiac MRI. The training program is very flexible and can be tailored to meet your unique needs. You have the option of adding an emphasis in other imaging subspecialties such as peripheral vascular imaging, thoracic imaging, body MRI imaging, 3D post-processing, nuclear imaging, among others. The program offers either a one-year or two-year track, and we will be accepting one fellow for 2013.

Information and application can be found at our website:

Currently we perform between twenty to thirty cardiac CT scans per day with a very diverse case mix, including coronary CTA evaluation in the emergency department, evaluation of congenital heart disease, and others. All cardiac CT cases are scanned on state of the art 128 or 64 detector dual source scanners. In addition, we have a separate, dedicated CT angiography practice, which performs between fifteen to twenty vascular CT scans per day including pre- and post-operative assessment of aortic aneurysms, lower extremity runoffs, assessment of vasculitis, and other vascular cases. Overall, the Radiology Department supports 20 CT scanners.

We perform eight to fourteen clinical cardiac MRI scans per day, also with a diverse case mix -- evaluation of pericardial disease, non-ischemic cardiomyopathy, congenital heart disease (including a special program for evaluation of hypoplastic left heart) and others. Cardiac MRI cases are scanned on two 1.5 Tesla MRI scanners. There are eight additional MRI scanners (including three 3 Tesla scanner) that are dedicated to non-neuro clinical imaging, including vascular MRA, abdominal MRI, and musculoskeletal imaging. Overall, the Radiology Department supports twenty-six MRI scanners.

Trainees rotate through cardiac CT, cardiac MRI and have the option of extended rotations in peripheral vascular CT, chest CT, body MRI, nuclear medicine, interventional CT, and other areas depending on trainee interests. Trainees may rotate through our dedicated 3D post-processing laboratory which performs 3D rendering and structured measurements for cardiac, vascular, musculoskeletal, and neuro CT and MRI applications. Electives in cardiology and vascular medicine are available, including the option of extended hands-on training in echocardiography and/or stress testing.

Our section has weekly clinical teaching conferences specifically for the Cardiac imaging fellows, including clinical case reviews and didactic physics lectures.
The cardiac radiology section has eight staff radiologists, two staff cardiologists, and a Ph.D. physicist. All are primarily dedicated to cardiac imaging, though each also has another subspecialty focus, such as body MRI, thoracic imaging, or vascular imaging. The variety of expertise of our faculty gives the fellows an excellent, rounded education in all aspects of cardiac imaging.
