how was your experience when you interviewed? Any difficult questions or things that caught you off guard?

Generally interviews that I went on (heavy on community or academic-community hybrid programs) were very benign. Most common questions were about:

What/Why are you interested in General Surgery
Where do you want to go when you're done
Do have an interest in any subspecialties
What do you like to do outside of work
What are your strengths and weaknesses
Tell me about an interesting case and what you learned from it (if you haven't already, think about a case in your mind and have it in your pocket if they ask). Also should know about the disease process a bit because I was pimped on it a little bit -- mine was a abdominal sepsis case on a late night from a LAR leak, and the several week hospital stay thereafter.

Off kilter questions that I can remember:
How do you feel about the 80 hour work week (I guess now would be the new intern duty hour restrictions)
Should we be doing bariatric surgery?
Should the government intervene in medicine?
Nothing really was overtly offensive.
